Question to My Faithful Readers

I've had a number of people post the same question to me since I started this blog. I've not actually posted it on the blog for anyone else to see (I usually decline the post request).

A large number of you have asked if I would accept donations in order to compensate me for my time in maintaining this blog. I didn't create the blog with that in mind.

However, so many people have asked repeatedly that I am considering putting a PayPal link on the site so they can donate.

I never realized so many of you felt that you needed to give something for getting answers to trivia questions for free. It definitely keeps my belief that there is something special about the human heart.

What do you think? Should I accept donations from those who want to make one? I certainly don't want anyone to think it's required if I do.

Let me know.

  1. As for as donations to you for your services, I think that is great idea. But if you don't, you could do what I do: have "fans" make donations to a worthy cause, Pips Cause in your name. I play everything for them. Pips Cause is origazation that helps the deaf-blind get equipment to make their life a little but easier. Right now they are trying to raise $9000 to get a communicator for a young lady that is deaf and recently had both eyes removed. BTW, they accept from PayPal. Thanks for everything.

  2. i think what you do is good for us and we are all benefiting from it. so if you get offered donations i think you should except. it shows that we appreciate your time and effort. i know i thank you, this saves me time looking up my own answers and if in the future i can afford it i will be happy to contribute.

  3. We have to thank you in some way, shape or form RowdyDog. You're making it possible for many, including myself to win prizes worth hundreds of dollars. You deserve the donations

  4. Definitely. Your hard work saves all of us from having to spend so much time finding all the answers ourselves.

  5. no, it would not be appropriate to accept money for it. I think it might even be illegal and you might have problems with GSN.

However, accepting help in the form of others posting, would be better.

  7. we all appreciate what you do, but i'm worried that accepting donations by putting up paypal could possibly cause legal issues. you won't help any of us anymore if the site is taken down bc of illegal payment.

I think you should either tell people to donate the money in honor of you.

  8. Thank you all for the comments so far.

I have absolutely no problem with people making donations to good causes (not that I'm not a good cause, too. :-) )

For those who were concerned, I've looked into the legal issues about accepting donations. As long as it is voluntary and I am not actively soliciting them, I can legally accept them. Many blogs do and they do not have any problems. Also, I seriously doubt GSN would even care if anyone donated to this blog.

I'm going to continue thinking about this and listening to your comments before I make a decision.

To those who want to donate to a charity in my name (and have already mentioned one), I will contact you with specifics shortly.

    Thanks again!

  9. Looking up the answers on Google, Wiki, and IMDB is almost as much fun as playing the trivia games, themselves, but i do sometimes use your answers, as well -- especially if i'm in a hurry. You've made actually WATCHING the game shows unnecessary, though, and for that, i thank you (they're not as good since GSN changed their lineup). I think that sending voluntary donations is a good idea -- i've wondered about it, myself, although i've never asked you about it. If you make the option available, i think you'd probably get a fair amount of "thank you's."
